Abstract
ABSTRACT
Aedes aegypti is one of the vectors of dangerous diseases, namely Dengue Hemorrhaghic Fever. One way to reduce the spread of this disease is by avoiding Aedes aegypti bites using repellent.
The purpose of this study was to determine and assess the repellency potential of ethanol extract of onion leaves against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes bites. The study design was a true experimental post-test only control group using ± 300 Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that had been divided into five experimental groups. The study conducted for five days of repetition with the number of perched mosquitoes on the attractant provides as data taken in this study. Data analysis used Kruskal Walls test followwed by the Mann-Whitney test as post hoc analysis, and the Spearman correlation test all with α coefficient = 0.05.
The results showed the value of Kruskal Walls on the concentration of extracts with the number of mosquitoes perched to be 0,000 and the value at work (persistence) of repellent to the number of mosquitoes perched was 0.290. The Spearman test value on the extract concentration to the number of mosquitoes perched was 0,000 with a correlation coefficient of -0,400 and the value at work time (persistence) of repellent to the number of mosquitoes perched was 0.044 with a correlation coefficient of 0.202. The ethanol extracts of 10%, 15% and 20% affect as a repellent against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The conclusion of the study is the ethanol extract of 20% proved to be the most effective repellent against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
