Abstract
ENGLISH:
Cantaloupe (Cucumis melo L. var. cantalupensis) a fruit producing plant that is found commonly in Indonesia. The cantaloupe is known to have antibacterial properties. The aim of this study were to determine the inhibitory zone diameter of 96% ethanol extract of cantaloupe fruit and find out the antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria. The method in making extracts is exstraction using the Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE) using 96% ethanol solvent. Furthermore, a qualitative test was carried out by the compound groups, namely the color reaction test and the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) test, then the antibacterial activity test was carried out using the paper disk diffusion method. The statistical data analysis in this study used Kruskal-Wallis test. The results of phytochemical screening 96% ethanol extract of cantaloupe contain groups of alkaloids, steroids and terpenoid compounds. Based on the results of the average inhibition zone diameter of 96% ethanol extract of cantaloupe fruit on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria at a concentration of 100 ppm of 0.91 mm; 200 ppm of 1.01 mm; 300 ppm of 1.19 mm; and 400 ppm of 1.44 mm. This shows that 96% ethanol extract cantaloupe fruit has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli.
INDONESIA:
Blewah (Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis) merupakan tumbuhan penghasil buah yang banyak ditemukan di Indonesia. Buah blewah diketahui memiliki kandungan antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol 96% buah blewah dan mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli. Metode dalam pembuatan ekstrak yaitu ekstraksi dengan metode Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE) menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji kualitatif golongan senyawa yaitu uji reaksi warna dan uji Kromatografi Lapis Tipis (KLT), lalu dilakukan uji aktivitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi kertas cakram. Analisis data statistika yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu uji Kruskal-Wallis. Hasil penelitian ini mengandung golongan senyawa alkaloid, steroid dan terpenoid. Hasil rata-rata diameter zona hambat ekstrak etanol 96% buah blewah terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Escherichia coli pada konsentrasi 100 ppm sebesar 0,91 mm; 200 ppm sebesar 1,01 mm; 300 ppm sebesar 1,19 mm; dan 400 ppm sebesar 1,44 mm. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol 96% buah blewah memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Escherichia coli.
