Pengaruh Future Time perspective terhadap Work Readiness pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

ABSTRACT

Work readiness is an important factor that must be possessed by prospective college graduates to be able to compete in employment. Given the current amount of jobs in Indonesia is not comparable with the amount of S1 graduates who increase every year. Many previous studies proved that future time perspective has a positive affect on various psychological attributes such as persistence in learning, academic achievement, career decision making, and even career maturity. Meanwhile, there are very few studies in Indonesia that discuss about future time perspective literature, even study on its affects on work readiness does not yet exist, so this study is very important to do. This study aimed to determine the influence of future time perspective toward work readiness in final year's college students in UIN Malang.

In this study, the independent variable (X) is indicated by the future time perspective, while the dependent variable (Y) is indicated by work readiness. This study uses a quantitative approach with incidental sampling data collection techniques. The study subjects were final year's college students in UIN Malang (eighth semester) with a sample of 90 from the faculty of psychology, faculty of science and technology, and faculty of tarbiyah and teacher training (FITK). The instrument in this study used two scale adaptations namely Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS) by Husman & Shell (2008) and Work Readiness Scale (WRS) by Caballero, Walker, & Fuller-Tyszkiewicz (2011). Data were analyzed using linear regression.

The results of the study showed that the majority of the final year's college students of UIN Malang had a high level of future time perspective (54,4%) and a high level of work readiness (63,3%). Future time perspective proved to have a significant positive affect on work readiness (R2 = 0,297; p< 0,05). This means that the future time perspective contributed 29,7% to work readiness.

Kesiapan bekerja merupakan faktor penting yang harus dimiliki oleh para calon lulusan perguruan tinggi untuk dapat bersaing di lapangan pekerjaan. Mengingat saat ini jumlah lapangan pekerjaan di Indonesia tidak sebanding dengan banyaknya lulusan S1 yang meningkat setiap tahunnya. Banyak penelitian terdahulu membuktikan bahwa future time perspective berpengaruh positif terhadap berbagai atribut psikologi seperti pada kegigihan dalam belajar, prestasi akademik, pengambilan keputusan karir, bahkan kematangan karir. Sementara itu, penelitian di Indonesia masih sangat minim yang membahas mengenai literatur future time perspective, bahkan penelitian yang meneliti pengaruhnya terhadap work readiness belum ada, sehingga penelitian ini sangat penting untuk dilakukan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh future time perspective terhadap work readiness pada mahasiswa tingkat akhir di UIN Malang.

Pada penelitian ini, variabel bebas (X) ditunjukkan dengan future time perspective, sedangkan variabel terikat (Y) ditunjukkan dengan work readiness. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data sampling insidental (nonproblability sampling). Subjek penelitian merupakan mahasiswa tingkat akhir UIN Malang (semester 8) dengan ukuran sampel 90 yang dari fakultas psikologi, fakultas sains dan teknologi, serta fakultas ilmu tarbiyah dan keguruan. Instrumen pada penelitian ini menggunakan dua skala adaptasi yakni Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS) milik Husman & Shell (2008) dan Work Readiness Scale (WRS) milik Caballero, Walker, & Fuller-Tyszkiewicz (2010). Data dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa tingkat akhir UIN Malang memiliki tingkat future time perspective pada kategori tinggi sebesar 54,4% serta tingkat work readiness yang juga tinggi sebesar 63,3%. Future time perspective terbukti berpengaruh positif secara signifikan terhadap work readiness (R2=0,297; p<0,05). Artinya, future time perspective berkontribusi 29,7% terhadap work readiness.
