Abstract
INDONESIA :
Logam tembaga tergolong ke dalam salah satu logam berat yang diduga paling banyak berasal dari kegiatan laboratorium dan perindustrian misalnya proses pelapisan logam yang melibatkan reaksi elektrokimia. Adsorpsi merupakan suatu proses dimana zat terlarut yang ada dalam larutan, akan diserap oleh permukaan zat melibatkan interaksi kimia salah satunya secara ionik (pertukaran ion). Salah satu senyawa yang dapat digunakan sebagai adsorben adalah eceng gondok karena memiliki gugus hidroksil (-OH) pada selulosa sehingga memiliki kemampuan berinteraksi dengan logam. Penambahan gugus pengikat logam dapat meningkatkan kemampuan adsorpsi oleh gugus karboksil (-COOH) yang berasal dari sitrat dengan gugus hidroksil (-OH) pada selulosa melalui reaksi esterifikasi dengan variasi konsentrasi 0,5 M; 1,0 M; dan 1,5 M lalu digunakan untuk proses adsorpsi logam tembaga pada variasi pH (4, 5, 6, 7 dan 8).
Hasil adsorpsi penelitian ini menyatakan biosorben termodifikasi sitrat 1 M pada pH 7 memiliki prosentase adsorpsi 91,4937%, merupakan persentase adsorpsi paling tinggi dibandingkan biosorben tanpa modifikasi, termodifikasi sitrat 0,5 M; 1,5 M dan pH larutan lain. Hasil adsorpsi ini sesuai dengan karakterisasi menggunakan spektrofotometer FTIR yaitu terbentuknya gugus ester di daerah serapan 1735,645 cm-1 pada biosorben hasil modifikasi. Gugus ester ini menunjukkan terikatnya sitrat pada selulosa sehingga meningkatkan gugus pengikat logam tembaga.

Copper metal is classified as one of the heavy metals which thought to originate most from laboratory and industrial activities such as metal coating processes involving electrochemical reactions. Adsorption is a process if some solutes that are present in a solution, are absorbed by the surface of a substance involving chemical interactions, one of which is ionic (ion exchange). One of the compounds that can be used as an adsorbent is water hyacinth because it has a hydroxyl (-OH) group on cellulose which has the ability to interact with metals. Addition of metal binding groups can increase the adsorption ability of the carboxyl (-COOH) citrate group with hydroxyl (-OH) groups on cellulose through the esterification of citric acid with variations concentration 0.5 M; 1.0 M; and 1.5 M was used for copper metal adsorption in a variety of pH solution (4, 5, 6, 7 and 8).
The adsorption results of this study stated that biosorbent with 1 M citric acid modified at pH 7 had a percentage of 91.4937%, the highest percentage of adsorption compared to biosorbent without modification, 0.5 M citrate modified; 1.5 M and the pH in another solutions. The results of this adsorption are in identified with the characterization using FTIR spectrophotometer, namely the formation of an ester group in uptake of 1735,645 cm-1 in modified biosorbent. This group of esters shows that citric acid was bound to cellulose therefor can increase the active group to bind copper metal.
