Abstract
INDONESIA :
ENGLISH :
Corn stalk is one of the sources of biomass with high cellullose content, so it can be used as biosorbent in the adsorption process. Modification of corn stalks aims to improve the ability of adsorption of corn stalks. In this study, modification of corn stems using a solution of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid and 1M citric acid. This study aims to determine the methylene blue adsorption kinetics, optimum conditions for methylene blue adsorption, and differences in active groups of corn stems after modification.
The stages of this study include biosorbent preparation of corn stalks; demineralization of corn stalks using 0,1 M hydrochloric acid; activation using 1 M citric acid; determination of methylene blue adsorption kinetics; the effect of pH on methylene blue adsorption; and characterization of corn stems using FTIR.
In this study, the results of methylene blue adsorption kinetics follow the second order equation which shows the adsorption takes place chemically. The optimum condition of methylene blue adsorption occurred at pH 6 and contact time of 5 hours with an adsorption capacity of 47,906 mg / g. The results of the analysis of IR spectra after modification showed that there was a new group C = O ester at wave number 1736 cm-1. This shows the production of ester groups after modification.
