Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
Ethnopharmaceutical studies in the Tengger Tribe recommended the Wer Guava fruit (Prunus persica Zieb&Zucc.) to be studied scientifically as an antidiarrheal and the content of secondary metabolites in it. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity of 96% ethanol extract, ethyl acetate extract, chlorofomic extract, and n-hexane extract of Wer Guava fruit on Shigella dysenteriae bacteria. The test of content of wer guava fruit compounds using thin layer chromatography (TLC), was then continued with anti-bacterial testing using medium of Mueller-Hinton Agar (MHA) by well diffusion method.
The results obtained from the various extracts in the compound test showed the presence of alkaloids in the extracts of ethanol, chloroform and n-hexane, flavonoid compounds were found in the extracts of ethanol and ethyl acetate. Then the antibacterial test showed an inhibitory zone against the Shigella dysenteriae bacteria. Each inhibitory zone for Shigella dysenteriae was 96%:- ethanol extract, chloroform extract: 3.43 mm, ethyl acetate extract: 5.15 mm, and n-hexane extract: 2.71 mm. Ethyl acetate extract had the greatest inhibitory effect on Shigella dysenteriae bacteria.
