Abstract
INDONESIA:
Batang jagung memiliki potensi sebagai biosorben pada penurunan kadar zat warna dalam limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh modifikasi asam sitrat pada batang jagung terhadap adsorpsi methylene blue. Analisis kuantitatif gugus fungsi total (karboksil, lakton, dan hidroksil) batang jagung dilakukan dengan metode titrasi Boehm. Karakteristik batang jagung termodifikasi asam sitrat menggunakan FTIR, sedangkan spektrofotometer UV-Vis untuk menentukan kadar methylene blue.
Tahapan penelitian ini meliputi; optimasi analisis methylene blue menggunakan UV-Vis, demineralisasi, modifikasi batang jagung dengan variasi konsentrasi asam sitrat 0,5 M; 1 M; 1,5 M; dan 2 M, adsorpsi methylene blue, karakterisasi batang jagung menggunakan FTIR, analisis kuantitatif gugus fungsi (karboksil, lakton, dan hidrosil) batang jagung menggunakan metode titrasi Boehm, analisis kadar methylene blue menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis.
Hasil analisis spektra IR setelah dimodifikasi asam sitrat menunjukkan adanya gugus baru C=O ester pada bilangan gelombang 1737 cm-1, sehingga dapat diketahui bahwa reaksi esterifikasi telah terjadi pada batang jagung. Gugus fungsi total tertinggi pada saat batang jagung dimodifikasi asam sitrat 1 M yaitu sebesar 3,77 meq/gram. Kenaikan gugus fungsi total dari 2,73 meq/gram pada batang jagung alami sesuai dengan kenaikan kapasitas adsorpsinya dari 65,58 mg/g menjadi 88,10 mg/g. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa modifikasi asam sitrat memberi pengaruh pada kemampuan batang jagung dalam adsorpsi methylene blue menjadi lebih baik.

Corn stalks have the potential as biosorbents in decreasing levels of dyes in waste. This study aims to determine the effect of modification of citric acid on corn stalk on the adsorption of methylene blue. Quantitative analysis of total functional groups (carboxyl, lactone, and hydroxyl) of corn stalks was carried out by the Boehm titration method. Characteristics of citric acid modified corn stalks using FTIR, while UV-Vis spectrophotometer to determine methylene blue levels.
The stages of this study include, optimization of the analysis of methylene blue using UV-Vis, demineralization, modification of corn stalks with concentration variations of citric acid are 0.5 M; 1 M; 1.5 M; and 2 M, methylene blue adsorption, characterization of corn stalks using FTIR, quantitative analysis of functional groups (carboxyl, lactone, and hydrosil) of corn stalks using the Boehm titration method, analysis of methylene blue using UV-Vis spectrophotometer.
The results of the analysis of IR spectra after modified citric acid showed the presence of a new group C = O ester at wave number 1737 cm-1, so that it can be seen that the esterification reaction has occurred in the corn stalk. The highest total functional group at the time of modified citric acid 1 M is 3.77 meq/ gram. The increase in the total functional group of 2.73 meq / gram in natural corn stalks was in accordance with the increase in its adsorption capacity from 65.58 mg / g to 88.10 mg / g. This shows that the modification of citric acid has an effect on the ability of corn stalks to better absorb methylene blue.
