Abstract
INDONESIA:
Sintesis zeolit NaX dari kaolin telah dilakukan menggunakan metode hidrotermal. Kereaktifan kaolin ditingkatkan melalui proses alkali fusi dengan variasi rasio berat NaOH/kaolin 1.0; 2.0; dan 3.0. Hasil alkali fusi kaolin terbaik digunakan sebagai bahan dasar pembuatan zeolit. Kandungan unsur pada kaolin dianalisis menggunakan XRF. Karakteristik perubahan struktur, gugus fungsi, dan morfologi kaolin, metakaolin, dan zeolit NaX dianalisis menggunakan XRD, FTIR, dan SEM.
Hasil XRF dapat diketahui kandungan silika pada kaolin sebesar 76,1% dan alumina sebesar 9,6%. Kaolin alam banyak mengandung kuarsa dan mengandung hanya sedikit kaolin. Proses alkali fusi pada rasio berat NaOH/kaolin 1.0 terjadi penurunan intensitas kuarsa dan muncul sedikit puncak sodium silikat, NaOH/kaolin rasio 2.0 dan 3.0 terjadi hilangnya puncak kuarsa dan terbentuknya sodium silikat dan sedikit metakaolin. Hasil sintesis zeolit NaX menggunakan metode hidrotermal menunjukkan bahwa telah terbentuknya zeolit NaX murni.
Karakterisasi FTIR menunjukkan bahwa gugus fungsi metakaolin ditunjukkan dengan hilangnya serapan khas dari kaolin yakni pada daerah 1037, 912 dan 795 cm-1. Spektra zeolit NaX hasil sintesis memiliki serapan pada daerah 984, 741, dan 560 cm-1 yang merupakan puncak khas zeolit faujasit. Kaolin memiliki morfologi berupa lembaran-lembaran pipih sedangkan metakaolin memiliki morfologi yang tidak beraturan. Zeolit NaX hasil sintesis terlihat tidak memiliki perbedaan morfologi dengan metakaolin.
ENGLISH:
Synthesis of zeolite NaX from kaolin was carried out using hydrothermal methods. The reactivity of kaolin is increased through an alkali fusion process with variations weight ratio of NaOH/kaolin 1.0; 2.0; and 3.0. The best kaolin alkali fusion results are used for synthesis zeolites. Element content in kaolin was analyzed using XRF. Characteristics of structural changes, functional groups, and morphology of kaolin, metakaolin, and zeolite NaX were analyzed using XRD, FTIR, and SEM.
XRF results can be seen that kaolin has silica content is 76.1% and alumina content is 9.6%. Natural kaolin contains lots of quartz and contains few kaolin. The alkali fusion process at a weight ratio of NaOH/kaolin 1.0 decreased the intensity of quartz and appeared few peak of sodium silicate, NaOH/kaolin ratio of 2.0 and 3.0 decreased the quartz peak and formation of sodium silicate and few metakaolin. The synthesis of NaX zeolite using hydrothermal method showed that pure NaX zeolite was formed.
FTIR characterization shows that the metakaolin functional group is shown by the loss of typical absorption of kaolin in the area of 1037, 912 and 795 cm-1. The synthesized NaX zeolite spectra have uptake in the 984, 741, and 560 cm-1 regions which are the typical zeolite faujasit peaks. Kaolin has a layered plate morphology while metakaolin has an amorphous morphology. NaX zeolite synthesized has irregular morphology.
