Abstract

INDONESIA:

Limbah bubut besi merupakan limbah padat yang dihasilkan oleh industri kerajianan besi selama proses produksinya. Limbah tersebut dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan jika dibuang sembarangan, untuk itu perlu didaur ulang menjadi pigmen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan sintesis pigmen maghemit (γ-Fe2O3) dengan variasi suhu kalsinasi. Pigmen maghemit diperoleh dari presipitasi prekursor ferrous:ferric (Fe2+:Fe3+) menggunakan amonium hidroksida dan dikalsinasi pada variasi suhu 300, 350, 400 dan 450 oC selama 3 jam. Hasil yang diperoleh dikarakterisasi menggunakan XRD, Color Reader dan SEM-EDX

Hasil XRD menunjukkan seluruh sampel hasil kalsinasi sesuai dengan standar maghemit tetragonal, dengan karakter dan intensitas tertinggi pada suhu 350 oC. Ukuran kristal sampel kalsinasi pada suhu 350 oC 31,20 nm. Berdasarkan analisis warna, sampel hasil kalsinasi sesuai dengan range kecerahan dan kroma maghemit. Tidak terjadi perbedaan warna yang signifikan pada sampel. Hasil warna sampel hasil kalsinasi suhu 350 oC memiliki karakter kecerahan (L*) optimum dibandingkan yang lain. Hasil SEM-EDX menunjukkan bahwa ukuran dan bentuk partikel yang dihasilkan tidak seragam, serta terdapat impuritis seperti C dan Mn.

ENGLISH:

Iron lathe was a solid waste generated by iron craft industry during the production process. The waste may cause pollution of the environment if disposed carelessly, therefore, can be recycled into pigment. This main aim to sythesize of maghemite pigment (γ-Fe2O3) with calcination temperature variation. Maghemite pigment was obtained from the precipitation of ferrous;ferric precursors (Fe2+:Fe3+) using ammonium hydroxide and calcined with temperature variations of 300, 350, 400 and 450 oC for 3 hours. The results were characterized by XRD, Color Reader and SEM-EDX.

The XRD data showed that tetragonal maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) was obtained at all temperature, with the highest character and intensity of tetragonal geometric at 350 oC. Crystallite size of sample at 350 oC was 31,20 nm. Based on color analysis, the samples were corresponded to lightness and chroma of maghemite. And had no color difference, but sample at 350 oC showed the optimum lightness (L*). SEM-EDX result showed, the morphology of maghemite had not uniform particles and impurities, such as C and Mn
