Abstract
INDONESIA:
ENGLISH:
The KOH/γ-Al2O3 material was a material that has recent widely used as catalyst. In this research, synthesis KOH/γ-Al2O3 has been done by various methods namely wet impregnation, hydrothermal, and sonication. Result of synthesis that material was used as catalyst for transesterification reaction of palm oil. Synthesis of KOH/γ-Al2O3 has been performed with a ratio 1:4. The success of synthesis was analyzed using XRD. XRF was used as characterization support to know the addition percentage of K element. The result of transesterification reaction with the synthesized catalyst has been analyzed using GC-MS.
The XRD results show the addition of KOH to γ-Al2O3 is not seen in various methods. However, with XRF analysis there is addition percentage of K element successively that is 57.9%; 54.3%; 59.9% for wet impregnation, hydrothermal, and sonication. Transesterification results characterized using GC-MS showed yield of conversion amount of 77.81%; 77.21%; and 80.49% for each successive catalyst that is wet impregnation, hydrothermal, and sonication. The selectivity of the catalyst has a different focus where the wet impregnation method catalyst tends to convert in the form of 52.39% methyl palmitate while the hydrothermal and sonication method catalyst tends to convert in the form of methyl oleate by 50.54%; and 51.79%. The total dominant component that was successfully converted to methyl ester with wet impregnation, hydrothermal, and sonication catalyst were 86.83%; 88.40%; and 89.91%.
