Abstract
INDONESIA:
Biodiesel merupakan energi alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi kelangkaan bahan bakar minyak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memanfaatkan KOH/Zeolit sebagai katalis heterogen dalam reaksi transesterifikasi minyak jarak menjadi biodiesel. Pembuatan katalis dimulai dengan pengayakan zeolite, setelah itu dilakukan aktivasi kimia meanggunakan larutan HCl 6 M, dilanjutkan proses impregnasi basah menggunakan larutan KOH 20 % dan kalsinasi pada suhu 450 °C, sehinga diperoleh K2O/zeolite. Uji aktivasi K2O/zeolite dilakukan pada reaksi transesterifkasi minyak jarak (castor oil) menggunakan refluks pada suhu 60, 65, dan 70 °C selama 2 jam dengan perbandingan mol minyak dengan metanol sebesar 1:12 dan persen berat katalis terhadap berat minyak sebesar 3 %. Katalis yang dihasilkan dianalisis XRD dan XRF, sedangkan minyak jarak dan hasil reaksi transesterifikai dianalisis GC-MS, angka asam, densitas dan kadar air. Hasil uji aktivasi katalis KOH/zeolite pada reaksi transesterifikasi menunjukan bahwa pada suhu 60 °C menghasilkan persen area biodisel sebesar 28,76 %, pada suhu 65 °C menghasilkan persen area biodiesel sebesar 17,35% dan pada suhu 70 °C tidak terbentuk biodiesel.
ENGLISH:
Biodiesel is an alternative energy that can be used for solving the scarcity of fuel oil. This research aims to utilize KOH/Zeolite as a Heterogeneous catalyst in the transesterification reaction of castor oil into biodiesel. The catalyst making begins with zeolite sieving, then adding the chemical activation uses 6 M HCL solution. After that it is followed by an alkali impregnation process by using 20% KOH solution and the calcination at a temperature of 450 °C, and in the end of this process is obtained K2O/zeolite. Activation test of K2O/zeolite was done on castor oil transesterification reaction by using reflux at 60 °C, 65 °C, and 70 °C for 2 hours. The mole ratio of oil oil and methanol was 1:12 and the percentage of the weight catalyst with oil weight was 3%. The resulting catalysts were analyzed by XRD and XRF, while castor oil and the results of the transesterification were analyzed by GC-MS, acidity, dencity and moisture content. The result of catalyst activation test of KOH/zeolite on the transesterification reaction showed that at 60 °C, it produced a biodiesel area percentage of 28.76%. At 65 °C, it produced a biodiesel percentage area of 17.35% and at 70 °C, biodiesel was not formed.
