Perancangan typography center dengan pendekatan typography as architecture di Surabaya

Tipografi merupakan ilmu yang mempelajari bentuk huruf tidak hanya sebagai simbol bunyi namun juga sebagai suatu bentuk desain. Seni tipografi yaitu karya atau desain yang menggunakan pengolahan dan penataan huruf sebagi elemen utamanya. Tipografi biasa digunakan pada desain publikasi dan komunikasi visual seperti majalah, buku, multimedia, hingga musik video. Typography Center merupakan fasilitas untuk mewadahi orang-orang yang berminat pada bidang tipografi. Fungsinya yaitu sebagai tempat berkumpulnya peminat tipografi, sebagai tempat pengenalan tipografi secara rekreatif, dan sebagai tempat pengembangan edukasi dan ekonomi. Dengan perancangan ini diharapkan dapat membuat ilmu dan seni tipografi semakin berkembang dan memberikan manfaat kepada masyarakat. Perancangan typography center memiliki tujuan untuk mengembangkan dan memperkenalkan tipografi. Pada rancangan diharapkan mampu memperkenalkan tipografi tidak hanya melalui kegiatan yang ada dalam bangunan namun juga melalui bentuk bangunan itu sendiri. Sehingga digunakan pendekatan typography as architecture, yaitu menjadikan tipografi sebagai pembentuk arsitektur. Konsep dasar pada perancangan yaitu dengan menerapkan tipografi menjadi elemen pembentuk arsitektur. Ide bentuk dasar berasal dari huruf-huruf yang disusun sehingga membentuk ruang. Kemudian bentukan tersebut akan diolah pada tatanan tapak, ruang, dan bentuk bangunan.

Typography is the study of the shape of the letter not only as a symbol of sound but also as a form of design. Typography art is a work or design that uses the processing and arrangement of letters as the main element. Typography is commonly used in the design of publications and visual communications such as magazines, books, multimedia, to music video. Typography Center is a facility to accommodate people who are interested in the field of typography. Its function is as a gathering place for typographic enthusiasts, as a place to recognize typography recreatively, and as a place of education and economic development. With this design, it is expected to make the science and art of typography growing and providing benefits to the community. The design of typography center has purpose to develop and introduce typography. In the design, it is expected to introduce typography not only through the activities that exist in buildings but also through the form of the building itself. So, we used approach of typography as architecture, which makes typography as a form of architecture. The basic concept in designing is by applying typography to the architectural element. The idea of the basic form comes from letters arranged to form space. Then the formation will be processed on the order of tread, space, and shape of the building.
