Abstract
INDONESIA:
Aktivitas industri kerajinan besi menghasilkan limbah bubut besi yang memiliki kandungan besi (Fe) yang sangat besar. Hal ini dapat berpotensi mencemari lingkungan, sehingga diperlukan usaha untuk mengatasinya.Salah satu peluang pemanfaatan limbah tersebut adalah sebagai bahan baku (prekursor) untuk sintesis pigmen oksida besi. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan sintesis pigmen hematit (α-Fe2O3) dengan metode presipitasi dan dilanjutkan dengan proses kalsinasi selama 1, 2, 3, dan 4 jam pada suhu 750 oC.Sampel hasil sintesis dikarakterisasi menggunkan teknik difraksi sinar-X (XRD), spektroskopi Raman, color reader dan SEM-EDX. Data hasil XRD dan Raman menunjukkan fasa geotit setelah proses presipitasi dan berubah menjadi hematit setelah dilakukan kalsinasi. Intensitas puncak tertinggi pada hasil XRD didapatkan pada waktu kalsinasi 3 jam yang mengindikasikan mempunyai derajat kristalinitas tertinggi di antara semua sampel. Nilai warna meliputi L*, a*, b*, C*, dan H° pada semua pigmen sesuai dengan standar. Hasil SEM-EDX menunjukkan bahwa morfologi α-Fe2O3 hasil sintesis tidak seragam, dan ditemukan pengotor berupa unsur Na dan C.
ENGLISH:
The activity of iron craft industries produce lathe waste that has high iron (Fe) metal. Its potentially as pollutant for environment, therefore its important to handle it. The highly abundant of iron in lathe waste can used to be precursor to synthesized the iron oxide pigment. In this research, the synthesis of iron oxide conducted by precipitation-calcination route method with variation of time calcination were 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours at 750˚C. The product synthesis characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, Raman spectroscopy, color reader, and SEM-EDX. The XRD and Raman data shows that goethite was obtained at precipitation and hematite was obtained after calcination. The impurities is no found in all sample. The highest of peak intensity XRD was obtained at 3 hours, that indicated the higher crystalinity than others. The value of color L*, C*, H˚, a*, b* of pigment synthesis according to the standart data. From SEM-EDX data showed that the morphology of α-Fe2O3 is not uniform and found the impurities element such as sodium and carbon.
