Abstract
INDONESIA:
Bakteri Sreptococcus mutans merupakan mikroba patogen penyebab karies gigi. Masyarakat Indonesia sejak dahulu memiliki pengetahuan lokal tentang penggunaan tumbuhan untuk obat, termasuk obat penyakit gigi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jenis tumbuhan, organ, cara pemanfaatan, cara mendapatkan tumbuhan berpotensi obat gigi serta daya hambat tumbuhan tersebut terhadap bakteri S. mutans.
Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif eksploratif dengan metode survey dan teknik wawancara semi terstruktur (semi-structural interview) melalui pendekatan PEA (Participatory Ethnobotany Apprasial) yakni kegiatan yang melibatkan partisipasi peneliti dan masyarakat dalam penelitian. Pengambilan sampel dengan cara purposive sampling sebanyak 60 responden. Jenis tumbuhan dengan persentase penggunaan tertinggi oleh masyarakat Kecamatan Besuk, di uji daya hambat terhadap bakteri S. mutans dengan menggunakan metode difusi sumuran. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan konsentrasi 10%, 30%, 50% dan 70% dan 4 kali ulangan.
Hasil penelitian etnobotani menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 11 famili dari 12 jenis tumbuhan yang berpotensi obat gigi. Tumbuhan yang memiliki persentase tertinggi adalah daun sirih (Piper bettle L.) 30%, belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) 22% dan pinang (Areca catechu L.) 12%. Organ tumbuhan berpotensi obat gigi dengan persentase tertinggi adalah daun 38% dan terendah adalah kulit buah, bunga, biji dan umbi lapis 8%. Persentase cara pemanfaatan tumbuhan berpotensi obat gigi tertinggi adalah tumbuk lalu ditempel 50% dan terendah dikunyah dan bakar 8%. Sumber perolehan tumbuhan berpotensi obat gigi tertinggi dengan cara budidaya 61% dan terendah tumbuhan mencari di alam (liar) 17%. Hasil penelitian uji zona hambat ekstrak buah belimbing wuluh terhadap bakteri S.mutans yang tertinggi pada konsentrasi 70% berdiameter sebesar 27,35 mm dengan kategori sangat kuat.

Bacterial Streptococcus mutants is microbial pathogens cause of dental caries. Indonesian community since the first have local knowledge about the use of plants to remedy, including the drug dental disease. The purpose of this study is to know the types of plants, organs, how to use, how to get potentially dental medicine and pinhibitory power to S. mutant bacteria.
This type of research is descriptive and explorative with survey method and semi-structural interview technique through PEA (Participatory Ethnobotany Appraisal) approach. It involves participation of researchers and society in research. Sampling done by purposive sampling to 60 respondents. Type of plant with the highest percentage of use by community of Besuk Sub-district, tested the resistance to S. mutants bacteria by using well diffusion method. The design used was complete randomized design (RAL) with concentrations of 10%, 30%, 50% and 70% and 4 repetition.
The results of ethnobotany research show that there were 11 families from 12 plant species that potentially can used to make dental medicine. Plants with the highest percentage were betel leaf (Piper bettle L.) 30%, carambola wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) 22% and Areca catechu L.) 12%. Plant organs with the highest percentage of use to make dental medicine is leaf 38% and the lowest are rind, flowers, seeds and ply bulbs 8%. Ways of utilize plant with highest potential percentage used as dental medicine crushed and patched is 50% and the lowest chewed and burned is 8%. The source of plant with the highest potential dental medicine is cultivation 61% and the lowest is wild plant 17%. The results of the inhibition zone carambola wuluh extract test against the highest S.mutans bacteria at 70% concentration with diameter of 27.35 mm by category very strong.
